The current website for Options for Sexual Health has availability of clinical resources about sexual health, but young adults struggle to find the information they need including: difficulty navigating the website interface, lack of awareness of the available resources, and uncertainty about where to find the information they need.
Based on the generative research, most young adults in BC have positive outcomes when it comes to their sexual life, however they experienced sexual health issues like STIs and unplanned pregnancies. This research concluded in knowing that the information was not accessible across different groups of young adults. As we may know the organization strives to increase the access to sexual health services as they provide a wealth of information and resources, but it makes users overwhelmed and anxious.
We conducted research to develop an understanding of users of this organizations. We conducted a survey with 8 individuals and 4 interviws via Zoom to gather all the information about the resource availability and user needs.
The result of this research concluded in users having difficulty in accessing information, more specifically STI's and pregnancy, and unable locate how to book an appointment due to: Wordly available resources, and lack of navigation ease.
For the user persona, there is Emily who just became sexually active but the knowledge she has about safe sex practices is very limited as she comes from a conservative background. She is concerned about the potential STIs after learning about them in school.
She needs to find accessible information about this topics and wants this process to be confidential and private. Her challenges come when she visits the website to find out about a certain STI. She get anxious and overwhelmed to see the amount of information online.
How might we improve the accessibility of clinical resources related to STIs and pregnancy for young adults in BC utilizing Options for Sexual Health's services, helping them to efficiantly address their sexual health concerns?
Increase the awareness and understanding of the available clinical resources on the existing website with a clean easy to follow interface that will provide young adults with the necessary tools and information to make informed decisions about their sexual health.
The goal is to guide the user to the correct resource based on their level of knowledge, with an onboarding process for them to know that they can get to their answer in a timely manner without getting frustrated or anxious. When it comes to finding information, users may have different levels of knowledge or familiarity with the topics. Some users may know exactly what they are looking for, while others may not be sure where to start.
For this project, one of the challenges that I faced was the interface change from desktop to mobile due to narrowing down our target user. At the beginning stages, as a group we decided on a desktop interface, but we discovered that our target user was very broad. Therefore when we narrowed it down to young adults, we noticed that they interact more with their mobile phones than a desktop.
